Just a Moment

For the past 12 years we have been blessed to be able to vacation with our closest friends in one of the most beautiful places on earth in Colorado! We take time to get away from it all and hike, eat, relax, and adventure. I forget how necessary and therapeutic it is to put a pause on life. To wake up with zero agenda and no place to be.

Our kids roam the mountainside collecting pinecones and rocks, while their daddy and I drink coffee in our pj’s and watch the hummingbirds flutter around us (although there is one persistent birdy that insists on trying to drink from my pink iphone!) The best of part of our yearly trip is the evenings that Jason and I spend on the deck, under the blanket of stars, dreaming. With wine in hand we discuss “what ifs” to our heart’s content. Little by little, we are getting to see our dreams come true!

So, this is where you’ll find me for the next week. And when I get home, I have a baby boom waiting for me! I can’t wait! See you soon!

One of the best parts of what I do is getting to capture a family’s first days together. What’s even better is getting to photograph the tiny bits and pieces that are precious during these early days. For Miss Athena, we made sure to capture her powerful ninja legs. Despite being so tiny, these little legs managed to outwit my wrapping skills. So we let them loose! Especially since her mommy and daddy love smooching them…

When her mommy told me that she loves purple and that lilacs are her favorite flower, I was able to dash outside and pick an armful of the season’s last lilacs. I’m so grateful that I was able to combine all of this new momma’s favorites in one photo!

This session stole my heart.

The beautiful innocence of a daddy with his little girl.

Hugs. Tickles. Snuggles. Smooches.

Little fingers clinging tightly to her greatest hero!

As I captured their sunny, sandy session on the shores of Lake Geneva, I realized that I don’t have photos like this with my dad. What an absolute treasure this little lady will have!

We explored the docks, stuck our toes in the sand, and ended the night with a sweet, chilly treat.

If only I could turn back the clock and get some photos like this with my dad!

Shelly was one of the very first friends I met when we moved to McHenry County. At a MOPS group we shared pregnancy and delivery stories, and a genuine friendship was formed. In addition to playdates and wine nights, I have been privileged to capture their family every year.

This year we were able to add her sister’s family and mom to our annual session. I’ve heard so much about them for so many years that they already felt like friends as well!

I love that, even though these cousins live states away from each other, they are so incredibly close. It’s an amazing testament to how hard their families work to have a close bond despite the miles.
